I believe this quote means that when you do right you might get a reward that is material, but you also feel rewarded from the inside, you feel great, you want to do the right more often, you feel better about yourself.  That if you have four things self-respect, dignity, integrity, and self-esteem that you will get through life with a positive achieving mind that will make you think more pride of yourself.
