Optical Laboratory Technician
Duties and Responsibilities:
They fit and grind eyeglasses into frames according to
prescriptions written by ophthalmologists. They make the lens polished and then
they fit them into the eyeglass frames. Optical laboratory technicians may work
in optical laboratories or for ophthalmologists or optometrists. They may also
work in retail stores that have optical departments.
Average Salary: $15,000-$20,000
Education:
Students who would like to become an optical laboratory
technician must have a GED certificate or high school diploma which is needed
to begin training. Training programs last between six months and one year. Some
of the optical departments in retail stores offer on-the-job training.
