Reflection: what I believe this quote means is that sometimes we’re around people that aren’t any good to us, and just bring us problems, and so it’s always better to be left alone instead of being around the wrong people.

 For example being around potheads, they won't bring you any good, instead they're slowly going to get you into smoking with them.
